Nuhash Polli

The famous writer, the late fictionist Humayun Ahmed has established natural beauty Nuhash Polli in Gazipur, near Dhaka. It is well known as a family entertainment center and shooting spot.


Most of the roads in Pirozali village of Gazipur covered in dense Shal (Shala tree) forest. One of these beautiful roads will take you to Nuhash Polli, 25 kilometers away from Gazipur Sadar.

Nuhash Polli location: It is located in Pirozali village under Mirzapur union of Gazipur district.

The place was a paradise for Humayun Ahmed. He spent most of his time here after starting TV dramas and films. This beautiful natural beauty is open for all. You can spend some wonderful moments with your family.

Some important info: In 1987, the Polli was founded and that time it was 22 bighas. Now a day its total area is about 40 bighas. Actor Dr. Ejaz helped to buy the land here. Nuhash Polli was named after Nuhash, the only son of Humayun Ahmed and his first wife Gultekin Ahmed. Humayun Ahmed, who loves to stay in touch with music and nature. He spent his last days here with nature.

What to see?

Dighi Leelaboti: There is a large pond on the north end, which has a wooden bridge over it. A tent was constructed by creating artificial islands in the pond. Humayun Ahmed and his wife Meher Afroz Shaon's daughter died before seeing the light of the earth. Humayun Ahmed named her daughter Leelaboti and the pond/dighi is also named after her. Humayun also wrote a book named Leelaboti.

Bhoot (Ghost) Bilas: While Humayun Ahmed was under treatment in the United States, a building named 'Bhoot Bilas' was constructed beside this pond. Humayun inaugurated the building after coming to Nuhash Polli in his lifetime. He believed that the ghost could be seen sitting on the balcony of the building at midnight.

Other attractions: There are several sculptures made by local architect Asaduzzaman Khan in the Polli. At the time of entry, you will be impressed by seeing the 'Mother and Child' sculpture. Ghosts and Frogs sculptures have been built here especially for the kids. Besides, there is a tree house which is one of the main sources of happiness for children. Humayun loved the rain and the full moon night. To see the rain, he built a room called 'Rain Bilas'.

Green gardens here were always kept clean so that Humayun can see the shadow of the moon. Nuhash Polli manager Babul with a team of nine people takes care of everything here.

Whenever Humayun traveled home and abroad, he used to collect various types of trees. There are about 300 species of fruits and medicinal plants in the Polli. Besides, he planted date palms and tea trees, which are still there. At first, Humayun Ahmed used to come here with guests who looked at the natural beauty. He introduced guests to different trees and invited the taste of a special aromatic tree.

There is a swimming pool near the bedroom of the author. Occasionally he used to swimming here with loved ones. Once Humayun Ahmed swam with India's renowned writer Sunil Gangopadhyay. The most successful drama and the movie directed by him was shot in Nuhash Polli.

How to go? You can reach the bus station of Hotapara in Gazipur by bus from Dhaka. There is a lot of bus services from Dhaka to Sreepur, Mawna, Kapasia, and Hatapur. The bus costs Taka 50 -70.

You can reach Tempo, Rickshaw or Baby taxi, 8 km north of Hotapara bus stand. If you get to the Tempo, the rent will be 30 Taka.  Apart from this, the cost of rickshaw and taxis will be Tk 50- 60 and Tk 100-120 respectively. You can rent a car from Dhaka or go straight to Polli in a private car.

Where to eat? No food arrangement inside the Polli. You need to take from outside or can cook for yourselves.

Need to know:  Nuhash Polli manager Saiful Islam Bulbul said, from April to November, it is open every day for all visitors. Children over twelve ticket price are Tk 200. But November-March is originally picnics time. For every picnic, maximum 300 people in one group will be able to come. For public holidays, it will be counted sixty thousand Taka for the picnic. For rest of the day, the charge is fifty thousand Taka.

You cannot stay after the sunset in here. Nuhash Polli is open for visitors from April to November.
