Tajhat Palace

Tajhat palace Rangpur is an excellent example of history. Tajhat zamindar is fundamentally related to Gopal Lal (GLR), son of Govinda Lal, who is locally known as Tajhat zamindar. Manna Lal Roy was the real founder of this dynasty. He came from far distant Panchbah to Rangibazar for the gold business in Mahiganj.

Tajhat Palace Rangpur: the unknown history

From 1984 to 1991 Tajhat palace, Rangpur was used as the High Court bench of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. In 1995, the Directorate declared the country as a protected archaeological site. The government of Bangladesh relocated the Museum of Rangpur to Tajhat in 2002, by looking at the other essential elements of this Palace.

Since 2005, this part has been used as a museum in Rangpur. As an Archaeology student, I am a regular visitor to Tajhat palace. On 15 May 2018, I went to Tajhat palace, Rangpur with my family once again.

It is known from the history of ancient Rangpur that Manna Lal Roy arrived in Mahiganj of Rangpur for diamond, jewelry and gold trading. At first, he did the business of various types of precious diamonds. He used to sit here for the sale of Taj, which later gained great popularity and this landlord was named after Tajhat zamindar house.
